First Steps in Music

for Preschool and Beyond

First Steps in Music is designed to prepare children to be musical by being tuneful, beat-ful, and artful. Each class will use a variety of songs, activities, games and rhymes to help each child discover their natural musical aptitude, build a musical vocabulary, nourish musical intelligence, and develop a lifelong love for music.

Registration is by semester. Students participate in 10 weeks of half-hour classes. $100 for the semester.

We are so excited to be partnering with various daycares and preschools across DeSoto County and the MidSouth region to bring First Steps in Music to the students in their care! Please take note of which classes listed below are open to any member of the public and which classes are open to students enrolled in the daycare at the host site.

Fall classes for 2026 Include the following times and locations:

Public Classes:

• Wednesdays, 10:00 at Big Note Music Studio in Hernando, MS with Mrs. Katie Brown
• Thursdays, 4:00 at St. Timothy's Episcopal in Southaven, MS with Mrs. Anna Fortenberry

School Partnership Classes:

• Tuesdays, Southaven First Methodist Preschool with Mrs. Anna Fortenberry (must be a SFMC Preschool student)
• Tuesdays, Southaven Kindercare with Mrs. Anna Fortenberry (must be a Southaven Kindercare student)
• Tuesdays, Sacred Heart School with Mrs. Anna Fortenberry (must be a Sacred Heart student)
